Connect driver hours to safer work planning
Give drivers and dispatchers a clearer view of work, rest and logbook records before a schedule becomes difficult to complete safely.

Plan from current, reliable records
A safe plan depends on knowing what work has already been completed, what rest has been taken and what commitments remain. Keep driver-hours information current and make the next assignment visible to the people planning the day.
Build schedules with realistic travel, loading and waiting time. A plan that uses every available minute leaves little room for delays or the rest a driver needs.
Make exceptions visible early
Give drivers a simple way to record changes and make it clear who should be contacted when the plan no longer fits. Dispatchers can then adjust work before a late run or unexpected delay creates pressure to continue.
Use alerts and review routines to identify missing entries, approaching limits or changes that need a manager’s attention.
Support the process with training and review
Explain how work and rest records are used, how to correct an error and how a driver can raise a safety concern. Review recurring schedule pressure with dispatch and operations, not just individual drivers.
NZTA publishes current work-time and logbook requirements, including who they apply to. Check the rules that apply to your operation and use an approved electronic logbook where required.
